When I was a little girl I remember watching Dumbo for the first time. I remember how sad I was for Dumbo and his mom when everyone was being mean, picking on a baby elephant just because he looked different from the rest of the herd. How it just didn’t seem fair to separate him from his mom, especially at such a young age.
I also remember the thrill and excitement as I watched Dumbo fly for the first time, becoming confident that he could do the ‘impossible’! To see him believe in himself, follow his dreams and then succeed was uplifting! Perhaps, as a little girl I wasn’t thinking such in depth thoughts, but I do know the movie left a big impact on my little girl heart.
A few nights ago we put together a movie night for our boys (mostly the preschooler, as the one year old doesn’t sit still) and the movie choice was Dumbo! Excited about the new upcoming live action film, it was fun to take a quick trip down memory lane and watch my son enjoy the original Dumbo for the first time. Although, I do have to admit, I am very curious as to how the original is going to come to life in the new live action film. Tim Burton is a genius, but, if I’m being honest, the Nightmare Before Christmas still freaks me out a little. As do the new Alice in Wonderland films! It probably won’t freak me out, but I have a feeling it is going to be a tear jerker!
Despite the unknown, we are excited to see Dumbo in a new light and that he is going to be introduced to a whole new generation. We celebrated by putting together a simple ‘Dumbo’ themed trail mix and created a few Dumbo themed snack containers. Take a look below for what we put together and let me know if you’re excited about the new upcoming Dumbo movie.
Snack Containers (We opted to create and decorate our own, but simple bowls will work!)
Popcorn: We used a mixture of caramel, butter and cheese flavored popcorn. All, two or one works just fine. We liked the added texture and color the different flavors brought to the table.
Peanuts: Dry Roasted
Gather up all your supplies! If you are opting to create your own snack containers, take a look online for a popcorn container template. Or take a piece of paper, create the four walls and a bottom to hold in your snack. We opted to use a ticker card stock and taped all the paper walls together. Be sure to do your decorating before you add in the tape to your popcorn container. Alternatively, especially if you are short on time, you can just use a bowl to fill up with popcorn!
Add your popcorn, peanuts, M&Ms, and raisins to a large ziplock bag and give the mixture a big shake. Make sure things are evenly mixed up and distributed.
Pour some of your trail mix mixture in your snack containers. Turn on Dumbo and enjoy the show!!
There ya go! Easy, peasy way to have a simple movie night watching the class and original Dumbo before the new live action film comes out. Let me know if you have a movie night and if you are excited for the new upcoming live action Dumbo movie from Disney!
